Natalie
Nelson, Esq. is a sole practitioner specializing in
Labor & Employment and Civil Rights Law.
A 1992 graduate of the University of Florida College
of Law, Attorney Nelson was the recipient of the Outstanding
Achievement and Community Service Nominee Award.

Attorney
Nelson began her legal career as a judicial law clerk
at the Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands from
1992-1994.
In
her capacity as law clerk to the Honorable Raymond L.
Finch and George Eltman, Attorney Nelson handled administrative,
civil, criminal and domestic relations matters. |
This invaluable clerkship experience opened the door to
private practice with one of the leading firms in the
Territory. |

In 1994, Attorney Nelson joined the firm of Rohn &
Cusick in the heart of downtown, Christiansted, St.
Croix. As an associate, Attorney Nelson represented
primarily plaintiffs in personal injury and employment
matters and served as co-counsel on jury trials with
the firm's partner, Lee J. Rohn, from whom she gained
much of her litigation experience during those three
years.

Prior to returning to private practice, Attorney Nelson
was in public service where she held the position of Legal
Counsel/ Director of Labor Relations for the Government
of the Virgin Islands-Department of Labor commencing in
1997. In addition to serving as legal advisor for the
Department of Labor, Attorney Nelson was responsible for
administering and enforcing Local and Federal Labor &
Employment Laws governing private employers and employees
throughout the Territory of the Virgin Islands. |

In her capacity as Director of Labor Relations, Attorney
Nelson served as the authorized representative between
the Virgin Islands Department of Labor (VIDOL) and the
Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
|
Pursuant to its workshare agreement with the EEOC, the
Department's Division of Labor Relations shared concurrent
jurisdiction to enforce Title VII of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964,as amended, which prohibits employment discrimination
based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin or
sexual harassment, The Age Discrimination in Employment
Act (ADEA), The Equal Pay Act (EPA), and the Americans
With Disabilities Act (ADA). |
Attorney Nelson's enforcement and oversight authority
also included wage claims, employment disputes and unfair
labor practice charges pertaining to The Fair Labor Standards
Act (FLSA), the National Labor Relations Act (NLRB), the
Employee Retirement Income Security Act, the V.I. Discrimination
in Employment Act, the V.I. Civil Rights Act, the V.I.
Wrongful Discharge Act, and the Child Labor Law. |
Attorney Nelson is licensed to practice law in the U.S.
Virgin Islands, and admitted to practice in the Territorial
Court of the Virgin Islands, the U.S. District Court of
the Virgin Islands, and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Her extensive experience in Labor, Employment and Civil
Rights Law serves as the foundation of her current practice.
Through her practice, Attorney Nelson has made a firm
commitment to serve the people of the Virgin Islands by
promoting fairness and equity in the workplace for all.
